The Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights will begin its national tour this fall at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Tampa, Florida on October 27. It will then play Atlanta, Minneapolis, Hartford, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Houston, Austin, Tempe, San Diego and Costa Mesa into August 2010.
Set in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, where a community struggles to uphold tradition in a time of change, In the Heights was conceived by Lin-Manuel Miaranda, the show’s composer and original star, and features a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. It opened on Broadway on March 9, 2008, directed by Thomas Kail , with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and went on to win earned four Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score for Miranda.
The musical’s creative team includes music direction by Alex Lacamoire, music arrangements by Tony winners Lacamoire and Bill Sherman, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley and sound by Acme Sound Partners.
In the Heights continues its Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, starring Javier Muñoz, Mandy Gonzalez, Marcy Harriell, Olga Merediz and Priscilla Lopez, Andréa Burns, Janet Dacal, Robin De Jesús, Christopher Jackson,Rick Negrón and Seth Stewart.
