The Signature Theatre Company has extended its limited engagement of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful for a second time. The production, featuring Lois Smith as Carrie Watts and Hallie Foote as Jessie Mae Watts, is now slated to end its off-Broadway run on March 11.

In The Trip to Bountiful, Carrie Watts (Smith) longs to return to her childhood home of Bountiful, Texas, where she hasn't been in 30 years. Despite her failing health, she grows more determined to escape from the tiny Houston apartment she shares with her soft-spoken son (Devon Abner) and watchful daughter-in-law (Foote).

This production, directed by Harris Yulin, opened on December 4. In his Broadway.com Review of the staging, William Stevenson wrote: "Horton Foote's family dramas aren't exactly action-packed. The Trip to Bountiful, currently being revived by the Signature Theatre Company, is no exception. It's a touching character study of an elderly woman who is determined to visit her former home one more time before she dies. While the play may be too mild for some, fans of fine acting will appreciate the exquisitely nuanced performances of Lois Smith and Hallie Foote."

This is the final time The Trip to Bountiful can extend at Signature--the theater must be vacated for the company's next production, John Guare's Landscape of the Body, which begins performances on March 28.
