The Broadway production of Alan Ayckbourn’s The Norman Conquests has added a final “trilogy day” on Sunday, July 26. The production, which won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival, had been scheduled to close on July 25. To accommodate this extra performance of the three plays (Table Manners, Living Together and Round and Round the Garden), individual performances on July 21 and 22 have been cancelled. The Norman Conquests opened on April 23 at Circle in the Square, directed by Matthew Warchus.
Set in a dining room, living room and garden of an English country house, the action of the three plays in The Norman Conquests is simultaneous, with each exit in one play turning out to be an entrance in another, as the stories follow six characters: Desperate lothario Norman attempts to seduce his sister-in-law Annie, charm his brother-in-law’s wife Sarah and woo his estranged wife Ruth, during a disastrously hilarious weekend of eating, drinking and misunderstanding.
The cast includes Tony nominees Stephen Mangan (Norman), Jessica Hynes (Annie), Paul Ritter (Reg) and Amanda Root (Sarah), plus Amelia Bullmore (Ruth) and Ben Miles (Tom).
In addition to the Best Revival Tony, The Norman Conquests won three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Theatre World special award for the ensemble cast and a special citation from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, shared with director Matthew Warchus.
