STAR OF THE YEAR
In a year that saw plenty of big stars trying their luck on Broadway, a few special people rose above the pack as deserving candidates for the ultimate accolade: Star of the Year. You, our readers, decided who the ultimate winner.
 
Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel Radcliffe was voted Star of the Year 2008 by the readers of Broadway.com, winning the title over a field that included the stars of [title of show] (Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff and Jeff Bowen), Brian d’Arcy James, Patti LuPone, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Kelli O’Hara. Radcliffe is currently making his Broadway debut in the starring in the Broadway revival of Peter Shaffer’s Equus as Alan Strang, the troubled teen whose obsession with horses leads to a shocking crime.

Told of his big win, the charming young Harry Potter star said, “That’s really, really amazing! The Broadway community has been incredibly welcoming and this sort of sums it up, really. In a year when there have been some really big performances on Broadway, to have been nominated and win is really, really cool!”

Radcliffe also offered a special message to the fans who voted for him: “Thank you very much, you guys! I can always count on you. The fans are awesome.” As for how being named Star of the Year will change his life, Radcliffe quipped, “I think I’ll spend a lot more time with the editors of Broadway.com!”
