Lincoln Center’s Barnes & Noble traded its bookish vibe for a more toxic mood on June 25, getting down and dirty with a CD signing and live performance from the cast of off-Broadway's The Toxic Avenger. Based on the 1985 cult flick of the same name, the story of a nerdy scientist who becomes New Jersey’s first superhero after being tossed in a vat of radioactive waste (God, you gotta love that plotline) was adapted into the musical now playing at New World Stages. And the show is now boasting its own original cast album. Stars Nancy Opel, Celina Carvajal, Nick Cordero, Demond Green and Matthew Saldivar worked the crowd like comic superheroes themselves, belting out tunes and cracking jokes with the audience before sitting down to meet the fans. We joined the Avengers and librettist Joe DiPietro (who co-wrote the show with Bon Jovi rocker David Bryan) at the rocking event, and have the pictures to prove it was no toxic waste of time.
