Kerry O’Malley has joined the cast of Tony Award winner Billy Elliot. The actress began a six-week run at the Imperial Theater as Dead Mum on July 28, and will play the part through September 6. Leah Hocking, who originated the role on Broadway, returns to the production September 8.

The actress joins a cast currently featuring David Alvarez, Tommy Batchelor, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish as Billy, Haydn Gwynne as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Will Chase as Tony and Carole Shelley as Grandma.

O’Malley was last seen on Broadway as Betty Haynes in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. Additional Broadway credits include Cyrano: The Musical, Translations, Annie Get Your Gun and Into the Woods. Off-Broadway, she has appeared in How I Learned to Drive, Bright Lights Big City, Dublin Carol and Flight.

Billy Elliot is the heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners’ strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy’s journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer.

The musical was the recent winner of ten 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
