Memphis star Derrick Baskin will bring viewers backstage at Broadway’s hottest new musical with an exclusive video blog, Life in Memphis. The first installment of the series, documenting the show’s first preview on Broadway, can be viewed below.

Baskin, who plays Gator in Memphis, will introduce to all the key players of this new musical, which is set on famous Beale Street and tells of the story of the birth of rock and roll and a red-hot romance between a white DJ and a black R&B singer.

Baskin was previously seen on Broadway as Mitch Mahoney, the ex-con “Official Comfort Counselor” for cut spellers at the hit musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and as evil eel Jetsam in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. He has a long history with Memphis, having appeared in the show’s premiere at the North Short Music Theatre in 2003 and several subsequent readings and productions.
