Wanna Spice Girls Musical? Stage Version of Girl Group's Story in the Works

A stage version of the '90s English pop girl group will be billed as a 'pop extravaganza.'

Think audiences really, really wanna Spice Girls musical? Geri Halliwell, a.k.a. Ginger Spice, and a team of producers do, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mirror.

The paper is reporting that Halliwell would be a producer on the legit "pop extravaganza," which would tell the tale of the rise of the '90s English pop girl group. Apparently, the five women—Halliwell, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) held a meeting at London’s Nobu to discuss the project. A source tells the Mirror that, "the idea is for five relatively unknown actresses to take the parts and hopefully the girls will each have a say in who is cast."

The Spice Girls formed in 1994, after a management team placed an ad in The Stage trade paper looking for girls to audition for the group. With hits like "Wannabe," "Say You'll Be There" and "Spice Up Your Life," they went on to become one of the most successful girl groups of all time with total record sales estimated in the neighborhood of 65 million.
