Laurie Metcalf and Keith Carradine Complete Cast of the New Group's A Lie of the Mind

Tony Award nominees Laurie Metcalf and Keith Carradine have joined the cast of the New Group's upcoming off-Broadway revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind. Metcalf replaces the previously announced Deirdre O'Connell, who had to withdraw from the production to return to Playwrights Horizons' Circle Mirror Transformation. Directed by Ethan Hawke, A Lie of the Mind begins its limited engagment at the Acorn Theater on Theater Row on January 29, 2010, in advance of an as-yet-unanncounced February opening date.

Metcalf and Carradine join previously announced cast members Josh Hamilton, Marin Ireland, Alessandro Nivola, Maggie Siff and Frank Whaley in the story of Jake, a man who believes he may have murdered his own wife. While seeking refuge in the home of his abusive and unstable mother, Jake's brother Frankie goes to investigate his brother's past and finds himself caught in the confusing currents of revenge and longing. The New Group production marks the first New York revival of Shepard's 1985 play.

Metcalf recently appeared in the Broadway revival of Brighton Beach Memoirs. A Tony Award nominee for November, she has also been seen in My Thing of Love. Off-Broadway credits include Balm in Gilead; Bodies, Rest and Motion and Educating Rita. Best known for her almost ten years on the TV series Roseanne, the actress has also been seen onscreen in Scream 2, Bulworth, Runaway Bride, Malcolm in the Middle, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.

Carradine has been seen on Broadway in Hair, Foxfire, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Will Rogers Follies, which earned him a Tony Award nomination. Off-Broadway credits include Wake Up, It's Time to Go to Bed and Mindgame. Carradine's long TV and film resume includes Deadwood, Into the West, Complete Savages, Numb3rs, Law & Order and Dexter.
