In a move unsurprising to any of the numerous Gleeks out there, Fox has picked up hit musical series Glee for a full second season, the network announced on January 11. The quirky comedy, which features multi-harmonied vocal arrangements of musical theater and pop music hits, centers on an underdog high school glee club. The show will return for the second half of its initial season beginning April 13.
"We've loved Glee ever since it was a pilot script," Fox President Kevin Reilly commented in a statement. "It's been an incredible thrill to watch the show take root and see audiences embrace these characters in such a huge way."
Glee currently stars Broadway alums Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison, as well as funny lady Jane Lynch and rising heartthrob Cory Monteith. Fox also announced a nationwide open casting call to commence in February to fill three roles being added for season two.
Glee's first season has already been nominated for four Golden Globes and was honored with the People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy. The show recently ended its fall season on a high note, drawing more than eight million viewers for the episode that aired December 9, 2009.
