When the producers of the hit revival of Hair announced an open casting call for an all-new Broadway Tribe, they made plans to screen 500 actors—if that many showed up. Well! By the time the doors opened at the Public Theater on January 21 (temperature: 31 degrees), upwards of 1,000 Claude and Crissy wannabes were circling the block, resumes in hand.
