Scott Patterson will play the central role in 'White's Lies.'

TV and movie vet Scott Patterson will play the lead role of Joe White in the upcoming off-Broadway production of White’s Lies, a new comedy by Ben Andron. The play will begin previews on March 22 and open on April 12 at New World Stages, directed by Bob Cline.

Patterson joins a cast that already includes Peter Scolari, Christy Carlson Romano and Jimmy Ray Bennett. Still to be cast is the title character’s mother, a role played in a fall 2009 reading by Elaine Stritch.

White’s Lies centers on Joe White, who’s handsome and charming, with a great career and plenty of girlfriends. His mother drops a bombshell: She’s got cancer, and her dying wish is to have a grandchild. With his bachelorhood threatened, Joe could find a nice girl to settle down and have kids with, or he could convince his bitter, angry ex-girlfriend from college—who just happens to have a daughter in her early twenties—to pretend that her daughter is his daughter. As their tangled web of lies unravels, Joe and company find themselves on a hilarious journey full of twists and turns.

Patterson is known to TV audiences for his seven seasons as diner owner (and Lauren Graham’s on-screen love interest) Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls. He also co-starred in the TV series Aliens in America and was featured in the TV film Alien Nation: Dark Horizon. His films include Little Big League, Three Wishes and Saw IV, Saw V and Saw VI. He is a founder of the Arc Light Theatre Company.
