Complete Cast Announced for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Public

Benjamin Walker in 'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson'

Casting is complete for a brash rock musical built around the seventh U.S. president.

Complete casting has been announced for the Public Theater's forthcoming production of indie-rock tuner Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Written and directed by Alex Timbers, with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, the show begins previews on March 23 and is set to open on April 6. The limited engagement plays through April 25.

In addition to previously announced title star Benjamin Walker, the show will feature River Aguirre (The Gallery Players' Caroline, or Change) as Lyncoya; James Barry (off-Broadway's Sive) as Male Soloist; Michael Crane (off-Broadway's Doris To Darlene: A Cautionary Valentine) as Clay/Blackhawk; Michael Dunn (LA's Peace Squad Goes 99) as Calhoun; Greg Hildreth (Les Freres Corbusier's Dance Dance Revolution) as Red Eagle; Jeff Hiller (off-Broadway's Awesome 80s Prom) as John Quincy Adams; Lucas Near-Verbrugghe (Broadway's The Ritz) as Martin Van Buren; Maria Elena Ramirez (The Skin of Our Teeth at The Public) as Rachel; Kate Cullen Roberts (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) as Elizabeth; Ben Steinfeld (Fiasco's Cymbeline) as Monroe; Colleen Werthmann (off-Broadway's Gone Missing) as The Storyteller; and Emily Young (Fiasco's Cymbeline) as Female Soloist.

A brash rock musical about the country we live in and the leaders we choose, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson redefines America’s seventh president, the man who invented the Democratic Party and doubled the size of our nation, using a blend of comedy, anarchic theatricality and an emo rock score. The show played a sold-out run in spring 2009 as part of The Public's LAB season.

The musical features scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Bart Fasbender. The Public presentation of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will be co-produced with Center Theatre Group and in association with Les Freres Corbusier.
