Sondheim on Sondheim - Broadway

An intimate portrait of musical theater icon Stephen Sondheim using his own words and music.

The Stars of Sondheim on Sondheim Talk...Well, Sondheim!

The Stars of Sondheim on Sondheim Talk...Well, Sondheim!

A very different kind of Stephen Sondheim revue opened at Roundabout Theatre Company's Studio 54 on April 22. Sondheim on Sondheim, featuring songs both known and previously unreleased from the legendary composer's portfolio, takes the life of its title subject and puts it in the spotlight, highlighting everything from Sondheim's rise as a young artist in New York to his relationship with his mother through never-before-seen interviews with Sondheim himself. Don't let the multimedia fool you, however. Sondheim's songs are still the production's draw, especially in the hands of stars Barbara Cook, Vanessa Williams, Tom Wopat, Euan Mortan, Norm Lewis, Leslie Kritzer, Matthew Scott and Erin Mackey. Toss in direction by Pulitzer Prize winner James Lapine and it's no wonder fans like Blythe Danner, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Victoria Clark and more were lining up for a chance to see this unique new show. Watch the video to chat with the cast (and their celebrity fans) about Sondheim on Sondheim.
