It took a special role to lure Tony winner (and busy film star) Billy Crudup back to the stage—and Adam Rapp provided one in his new drama The Metal Children. Crudup plays down-at-the-heels writer Tobin Falmouth, whose young-adult novel has been banned by a small-town high school. When he travels to the town to defend his work, he meets a precocious teen (played by Spring Awakening alum Phoebe Strole) determined to bring the book’s bizarre plotline to life. This provocative new play opened on May 19 at the Vineyard Theatre, and Crudup & Co. celebrated together after the show. Take a look!
