Saved by the Bell alum Dustin Diamond will extend his run in the off-Broadway production of The Awesome 80s Prom through August 28. The interactive show, which is now in its sixth year, plays on Friday and Saturday nights at Webster Hall. Producer Ken Davenport revised the script to create a role for Diamond as himself.
Diamond is best known for his starring role as Samuel “Screech” Powers in Saved by the Bell, a role he reprised in Saved by the Bell: The College Years. He has appeared on television in The Weakest Link, Celebrity Boxing 2 and Professional Wrestling and in films that include Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star. Diamond is the author of a memoir titled Behind the Bell.
Set in 1989 at fictional Wanaget High School, The Awesome 80s Prom features characters from '80s movies from the captain of the football team to the Asian exchange student, from the geek to the hottie head cheerleader, all competing for Prom King and Queen.
Diamond joined the Prom on May 21, and Broadway.com documented his first day in New York City in a special Photo Op.
