David Duchovny, star of TV’s The X-Files and Californication, will make his New York stage debut in MCC Theater’s world premiere production of Neil LaBute’s The Break of Noon. Performances begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on October 28, directed by Jo Bonney. No opening date has been announced.
Duchovny will star as John Smith, a man who, amidst the chaos and horror of the worst office shooting in American history, sees the face of God. His modern-day revelation creates a maelstrom of disbelief among everyone he knows. A newcomer to faith, John urgently searches for a modern response to the age-old question: At what cost salvation?
Duchovny currently stars in Californication and earned a Golden Globe and two Emmy nominations for playing FBI agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files. He starred in two X-Files feature films and has appeared on the big screen in The Joneses, The Rapture, Chaplin, Beethoven, Evolution, Return to Me, Trust the Man and Things We Lost in the Fire. He starred in and directed House of D.
The Break of Noon marks Neil LaBute’s seventh collaboration with MCC Theater as Playwright-in-Residence, following the 2009 Tony-nominated Reasons to be Pretty, and his fourth collaboration with L.A.’s Geffen Playhouse, which is co-producing the play. Duchovny will appear in the New York portion of the run only; casting for the Geffen portion, which begins previews on January 25, 2011, will be announced later.
