Off-Broadway got a dose of old Hollywood glamour on May 9 when By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, a new play from Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, bowed at Second Stage Theater. Stage and screen siren Sanaa Lathan stars in the title role, an aspiring black actress in the Golden Age of Hollywood, and leads a cast of seasoned Broadway vets including Karen Olivo, Stephanie J. Block and Daniel Breaker. This talented company traces a singular woman’s unlikely career and even more unlikely legacy over the course of 70 years. After the lights came up on this time-travelling show, the cast was joined by Nottage, director Jo Bonney, fans and friend, and headed to Trattoria Dopo Teatro to celebrate.
