A Tony Kushner play attracts the theater’s top talents (onstage and in the audience), and the master’s latest work, The Illusion, is no exception. On June 5, Kushner’s adaptation of Corneille’s classic play opened at Signature Theatre Company, directed by Tony winner Michael Mayer. Featuring a terrific cast including Lois Smith, David Margulies and Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever, The Illusion had its off-Broadway bow at the Peter Norton Space, with first-nighters walking two blocks east on a balmy night to celebrate afterward at West Bank Café.
