Nancy Opel with her dog Momo & her cat Pete

After a two-show day, Broadway’s pet-owning performers love nothing more than coming home to their number one fan: a loyal four-legged friend. In honor of the annual Broadway Barks dog and cat adoption event, coming up on July 9 in Shubert Alley, we asked stage stars to show their puppy—and kitty!—love by telling us all about their furry pals.

NANCY OPEL (Gladys Calhoun in Memphis)

What is your pet’s name and breed?
Momo is an apricot toy poodle. Pete is a blonde domestic shorthair.

How did your pet get its name?
Momo is named after Lord Momotaro, the Peach Boy of Japanese legend. Pete is a girl. Enough said.

What is your pet’s favorite pastime?
Cat naps and begging for food.

Does your pet know any tricks?
Ummm. No. Unless you consider putting your chin on the dining room table a trick.

What’s the funniest thing your pet has done?
Momo sings with me while I coach students—at least the lucky ones.

What’s the naughtiest thing your pet has done?
They are both angels, pretty much.

Do you look like your pet?
We are all blondes at my house!

Keep checking back for more pet profiles from your favorite stars.
