Tony Nominee Brandon Victor Dixon Steps Into Rent as Tom Collins

Brandon Victor Dixon will temporarily join the cast of 'Rent.'

Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon will assume the role of Tom Collins in the off-Broadway revival of Rent on December 1 while current star Nicholas Christopher is on medical leave. Dixon will remain with the show, which is currently running at New World Stages, until February 12, 2012.

Dixon is a Tony nominee for his role in The Color Purple. Off-Broadway, he has been seen in Encores! House of Flowers and created the role of Haywood Paterson in The Scottsboro Boys. He played Simba on the national tour of The Lion King; his regional credits include Ray Charles Live!, Henry V and Romeo and Juliet.

Dixon joins a cast that includes Adam Chanler-Berat, Annaleigh Ashford, Margot Bingham, Arianda Fernandez, Marcus Paul James, Tamika Sonja Lawrence, Corbin Reid, Michael Rodriguez, Matt Shingledecker, Ephraim Sykes, Ben Thompson , Michael Wartella and Morgan Weed.
