Li Jun Li, Matthew Dellapina, Nelson Lee and Sonequa Martin-Green will star in the Vineyard Theatre's previously announced world premiere of Zayd Dohrn's Outside People. Directed by Evan Cabnet, the production begins performances December 21, with opening night set for January 10, 2012.
Set in modern-day Beijing, Outside People follows a young American man, Malcolm (Dellapina) who falls in love with a young Chinese woman, Xiao Mei (Li). As his eyes open to the subtle social, political and economic forces that inform their relationship, he must confront his complex place in this foreign culture, the friendship that brought him there, and his own deepest fears and desires.
Li has appeared on Broadway in South Pacific and off-Broadway in Romeo and Juliet and I'm Still Alive. Dellapina's off-Broadway credits include Dream of the Bruning Boy, In the Footprint, Telephone and Gone Missing. Lee's TV credits include Blade: The Series and OZ. Martin-Green has appeared on TV's The Good Wife and Army Wives.
The production will also feature scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Jessica Wegener Shay, lighting design by Ben Stanton and sound design by Jill BC DuBoff.
