Connie Fisher, winner of the BBC reality casting show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? and star of The Sound of Music on the West End, will star in Wonderful Town at The Lowry in Salford, U.K. Fisher will also lead a subsequent U.K. tour of the production. Directed by Braham Murray, performances in Salford begin March 31, 2012. Full casting will be announced in January.
Wonderful Town features a score by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and a book by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov. Fisher will star as aspiring writer Ruth Sherwood, who arrives in New York with her beautiful younger sister Eileen. The pair meet an array of colorful characters along the way, creating chaos at every turn in their search for romance, success and a free meal from Walgreen’s deli.
The production will feature choreography by Andrew Wright, set and costume design by Simon Higlett and lighting design by Chris Davey.
