Broadway Grosses: Porgy and Bess Shows Strength as Mormon Breaks Another Record

'Porgy and Bess' is drawing crowds to Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre.

The winter doldrums have set in on Broadway, although a handful of top-selling musicals continue to pack audiences in. The Book of Mormon climbed to second place, grossing an astounding $1,425,488 and shattering the box office record at the 1,066-seat Eugene O’Neill Theatre for the 26th time. The newly opened revival of Porgy and Bess made the frontrunners’ list for capacity while grossing an impressive $921,404. Meanwhile, Broadway said farewell to a trio of shows, Chinglish, Relatively Speaking and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
