Tom Bateman and Mark Bonnar Join Eve Best in 'The Duchess of Malfi'.

Tom Bateman and Mark Bonnar join previously announced star Eve Best in the upcoming Old Vic production of The Duchess of Malfi. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, The Duchess of Malfi will begin previews on March 17 and open officially on March 28.

Bateman will star as Antonio Bologna, steward of the Duchess’ palace, while Bonnar will play Daniel de Bosola, a former servant of the Cardinal sent to spy on the Duchess. Additional casting includes Harry Lloyd (Ferdinand), Finbar Lynch (The Cardinal of Aragon), Madeline Appiah (Cariola), Harry Attwell (Marquis of Pescara), Nari Blair-Mangat (Roderigo), Adam Burton (Silvio), Vyelle Croom (Malateste), Lucy Eaton (Lady in Waiting), Taylor James (Grisolan), Tunji Kasim (Delio), Harry Lloyd (Ferdinand), Iris Roberts (Julia) and Alan Westaway (Doctor and Castruccio).

The Duchess of Malfi is the story of the recently widowed Duchess (Best), who marries Antonio Bologna (Bateman) against the wishes of her family. As jealousy, madness and bloodshed surround her, the Duchess maintains her strength, composure and dignity, even in the face of death.

Bateman’s recent stage credits include The Lion in Winter at Theatre Royal Haymarket and Much Ado About Nothing at Wyndham’s Theatre. He will appear in the upcoming BBC production of Parade’s End by Tom Stoppard. Bonnar appeared in the West End production of Twelfth Night and The Cherry Orchard at the National Theatre, and on BBC’s Twenty Twelve.
