Casting is complete for the forthcoming production of Mame at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut, starring Tony nominee Louise Pitre (Mamma Mia!) as Mame. Directed by Ray Roderick, the revival will begin performances April 20 and run through July 1.
In addition to Pitre, the cast also includes Kirsten Wyatt as Agnes Gooch, Judy Blazer as Vera, James Seol as Ito, Paul Carlin as Babcock, James Beaman as Woolsey, James Lloyd Reynolds as Beau, Eli Baker as Peter, Lucas Shultz as Young Patrick and Erin Denman as Sally Cato. The Mame ensemble will feature Alan Gillespie, Beau Landry as Junior, Peter Leskowicz, Denice Lute as Mother Burnside/Madame Branislowski, Eric John Malhum as Mr. Upson, Mary Jo McConnell as Mrs. Upson, Kim Sava as Peegan, Melissa Ann Steadman, Kit Treece, Kellyn Uhl as Gloria and John T. Wolfe. Brittany Bohn and Nick Nerio serve as swings.
Mame features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. Based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame, Mame centers around kooky bohemian Mame Dennis, whose social life is turned upside down when her nephew comes to live with her. Set in New York during the Great Depression, the duo have a series of adventures together. Mame originally opened on Broadway in 1966 at the Winter Garden Theater, starring Angela Lansbury as Mame. The production won three Tony Awards.
The production’s creative team includes choreographer Vince Pesce, scenic designer James Youmans, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Charlie Morrison, sound designer Jay Hilton and music director Michael O’Flaherty.
