Mary Michael Patterson (Anything Goes) and Nick Spangler (The Book of Mormon) will play young lovers Liesl von Trapp and Rolf Gruber in Carnegie Hall's April 24 concert of The Sound of Music. As previously announced, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will star Laura Osnes as Maria Rainer, Brooke Shields as Baroness Elsa Schräder and Tony Goldwyn as Captain von Trapp. Directed by Gary Griffin and musically directed by Rob Fisher, the concert will benefit the music education programs of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute.
The Tony-winning musical, set in Austria on the eve of World War II, tells the story of the musical von Trapp family and the nun who becomes their nanny and eventual step-mother. The score includes favorites such as the title song, “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss” and “Climb Ev'ry Mountain.”
Completing the cast is Reed Birney as Admiral von Schreiber, Joel Hatch as Franz, Daniela DiGiallonardo as Baroness Elberfeld, Christine DiGiallonardo, Nadia DiGiallonardo, Patty Goble, Amy Justman, Kevin Munhall and the Women of the Mansfield University Concert Choir. They join previously announced stars Patrick Page, Stephanie Blythe, Joy Hermalyn, Linda Mugleston, Faith Sherman, Veanne Cox, Daniel Truhitte, Jake Montagnino, Olivia Knutsen, Jacob Sutton, Grace Luckett, Natalie Hawkins and Charlotte Knutsen. The cast will be accompanied by the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
