Mike Bartlett’s Chariots of Fire will transfer from Hampstead Theatre to the West End's Gielgud Theatre beginning June 22. Directed by Edward Hall and adapted from the 1981 film of the same name, the show begins its run May 9 at the Hampstead Theatre, where it will run through June 16.
Chariots of Fire tells the story of two track athletes—one Christian and one Jewish—who overcome the odds to compete in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Based on the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, Chariots of Fire is an inspirational tale of hope, honor and belief. Written by Colin Welland and directed by Hugh Hudson, the film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
The West End production will feature the same cast including James McArdle as Harold Abrahams and Jack Lowden as Eric Liddell, as well as Sam Archer, Joe Bannister, Antonia Bernath, Natasha Broomfield, Gareth Charlton, Henry Davis, Mark Edel-Hunt, Lloyd Everitt, Daniel Fraser, Nickolas Grace, Leemore Marrett Jr., David Newman, Matthew Pearson, Simon Slater, Savannah Stevenson, Paul Tinto, Simon Williams, Tam Williams and Nicholas Woodeson.
The production’s creative team includes designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Michael Howells, lighting designer Rick Fisher, choreographer Scott Ambler and sound designer Paul Groothuis, with original music by Vangelis and additional music by Jason Carr.
