In the weeks leading up to the 2012 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting videos of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. Three–time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, nominated this year for both her direction and choreography of Nice Work If You Can Get It, recalls the 1976 Tony telecast, which featured a show that became one of Broadway’s longest-running hits, Michael Bennett’s original production of A Chorus Line, featuring Tony winners Donna McKechnie and Kelly Bishop, plus Priscilla Lopez, Robert LuPone and more.
"I remember when 'A Chorus Line' was nominated and opened the show with the opening number and closed the show with the finale. It was when I was just starting to take dance lessons. That was the same year that the original 'Chicago' production was on, so [the telecast] was just chockful of thrilling dance."
