The three-hour CBS telecast of the 66th annual Tony Awards averaged six million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The number was down from the 6.9 million viewers that tuned in to the 2011 ceremony. This year the Tonys faced competition from the season finale of Mad Men and season premiere of True Blood as well as ABC's Secret Millionaire and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.
Hosted for the second year in a row by Neil Patrick Harris, the Tony Awards were broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre. Once prevailed as the night's big winner, taking home eight trophies including Best Musical.
