Room on the Broom, a new musical adaptation of the popular children's book, will play London’s Lyric Theatre for the holidays. Created by the theater company Tall Stories and presented by Kenny Wax and Nick Brooke, the production will begin performances November 21. Directed by Olivia Jacobs, Room on the Broom will play a limited engagement through January 13, 2013. The show is currently on a U.K. tour.
Based on the bestselling book of the same name by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Room on the Broom is aimed for children ages 3 to 8 years old. As a witch and her cat fly along on their broomstick, a stormy wind blows the witch’s hat, bow and wand away into the night. With the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog, her belongings are retrieved. But this broomstick is not meant for five and—crack!—it snaps in two! When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?
The production will star Morag Cross (Company of Angels) as Witch, Emma MacLennan (Peter Pan) as Cat, David Garrud (The Gruffalo) as Dog/Frog and Sam Donovan (Salome) as Bird/Dragon. Owen Guerin (The Gruffalo) will serve as an understudy.
Room on the Broom includes lighting design by James Whiteside, set and costume design by Morgan Large, puppet design by Yvonne Stone and music and music design by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw of Shock Productions.
