The theatrical series Life and Times: Episodes 1-4 will receive its first American premiere at the Public Theater as part of the company’s 2013 Under the Radar Festival. The play, conceived and directed by Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper, will run from January 16 through February 2, 2013 at the Public’s Astor Place location.
What is the show, exactly? The full Life and Times tells the complete story of one normal person’s account of life, from the earliest recollection to the most recent event. The script (which will consist of ten episodes) is taken verbatim from a transcript of ten recorded phone conversations with Kristin Worrall, the woman at the center of the show’s thematic message.
Episodes can be seen either in separate installments or together as a marathon. The first four segments comprise the first “movement” of the work: Episode 1 charts birth through age 8 with a focus on gymnastic spectacle. Episode 2 spans early adolescence and employs the concept of a chorus and chorus line. Episode 3 and 4 chart high school, applying the dramatic conventions of a “locker-room” mystery play.
Life and Times stars Ilan Bachrach, Elisabeth Conner, Gabel Eiben, Anne Gridley, Matthew Korahais, Julie LaMendola, Alison Weisgall and Kristin Worrall. The production features dramaturgy by Florian Malzacher, design by Peter Nigrini and original music by Robert M. Johanson, Julie LaMendola and Daniel Gower.
