About the Show

Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov, starring Ethan Hawke, begins performances on October 17 at off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company. The play, directed by Austin Pendleton, with a translation by Carol Rocamora, officially opens on November 4.

The 19th-century drama explores the life of its eponymous bureaucrat, who faces personal and financial turmoil. Stage and screen star Hawke co-stars with Joely Richardson as his ailing wife, Anna. The central role is often considered Chekhov’s first great dramatic anti-hero and has been called "the Russian Hamlet."

Ivanov features set design by Santo Loquasto, costumes by Marco Piemontese, lighting design by Keith Parham and sound design and original music by Ryan Rumery.
