Broadway's Bring It On Cuts Extension Short; Sets New Closing Date
Bring it On: The Musical has set a new closing date at the St. James Theatre. The musical will now play its final performance on December 30, 2012 instead of the previously announced January 20, 2013. At the time of its closing, Bring It On will have played 21 previews and 173 regular performances on Broadway.
“We are extremely grateful for the enthusiastic audiences who have cheered on this extraordinary cast and that we’ve been afforded 12 additional performance weeks past our original end date of October 7,” producer Glenn Ross of Universal Pictures Stage Productions said in a statement. “We’ve decided to forego the historically slow month of January and play our final performance on December 30, at the height of the holiday season.”
Inspired by the 2000 film of the same name, Bring It On features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, music by Tom Kitt, lyrics by Amanda Green and a book by Jeff Whitty. The upbeat show mixes the high-stakes world of competitive cheerleading with cutthroat high school politics. Directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, the musical tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition.
Bring it On stars Taylor Louderman as Campbell, Adrienne Warren as Danielle, Ryann Redmond as Bridget, Elle McLemore as Eva, Jason Gotay as Randall, Ariana DeBose as Nautica, Gregory Haney as La Cienega, Neil Haskell as Steven, Janet Krupin as Kylar, Kate Rockwell as Skylar and Nick Womack as Twig. The production also includes Calli Alden, Nikki Bohne, Dexter Carr, Shonica Gooden, Haley Hannah, Rod Harrelson, Casey Jamerson, Dominique Johnson, Michael Mindlin, Adrianna Parson and Bettis Richardson. The cast also features competitive cheerleaders Bethea, AJ Blankenship, Danielle Carlacci, Michael Naone-Carter, Courtney Corbeille, Dahlston Delgado, Brooklyn Alexis Freitag, Keith Gross, Melody Mills, David Ranck, Billie Sue Roe, Sheldon Tucker and Lauren Whitt.
