David Henry Hwang’s Golden Child Begins Performances Off-Broadway

The new revival of David Henry Hwang’s Golden Child will begin performances October 23 at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center, starring Greg Watanabe and Jennifer Lim. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the Signature Theatre Company production will open officially on November 13 and play a limited engagement through December 9 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre.

Golden Child stars Watanabe as Grandson/Eng Tieng-Bin, Lim as Eng Luan, Second Wife, Tony nominee Julyana Soelistyo as Eng Siu-Young, First Wife, Matthew Maher as Reverend Baines, Lesley Hu as Eng Eling, Third Wife, Annie Q as Eng Ahn, Tina Chilip as Servant/Ghost and Nadia Gan as Servant/Ghost. The play tells the story of a Chinese businessman (Watanabe), who sets off a dangerous power struggle in his polygamous Chinese household after returning from three years working abroad. The play explores the painful struggle of a Chinese family who is faced with Westernization.

The production features scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Matt Frey, sound design by Darron L. West and projection design by Darrel Maloney.
