London's Tricycle Theatre has announced the full cast for its new production of The Arabian Nights, based on The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night. The show, written by Mary Zimmerman, will run from November 30 through January 12, 2013 and will be directed by Lu Kemp.
The cast includes Ony Uhiara as Scheherezade/Sympathy, Jonathan Bonnici as Madman, Denton Chikura as Harun Al Rashid, Tunji Falana as Prince of Fools, Sandy Grierson as Sharyar/Aziz, Eva Magyar as Azizah, Itxaso Moreno as Jester’s Wife, Adura Onashile as Perfect Love, Tahirah Sharif as Dunyazade, Harmage Singh Kalirai as The Wazir and Hemi Yeroham as Jester.
The Arabian Nights tells the “punky, modern” story of a young woman in Baghdad who starts a revolution through the power of storytelling. She weaves tales of seduction, silliness and suspense in order to stay alive, but how long will her stories be able to save her?
The Arabian Nights features design by Ben Stones, lighting by Richard Howell, sound by Elena Pena, choreography by Ann Yee and projections by Andrzej Goulding. Darren Lang serves as the illusion consultant, with original music composed by Iranian band Take It Easy Hospital.
