The musical adaptation of the Oscar-nominated film Finding Neverland is eyeing a Broadway bow during the 2013-14 season, according to the New York Times. Directed by Rob Ashford and produced by film mogul Harvey Weinstein, the musical recently made its world premiere in Leicester, England, starring Julian Ovenden.
Weinstein hopes to retool the musical a bit before it heads across the pond, and has reportedly been seeking advice from Spider-Man composers Bono and the Edge, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Jujamcyn Theaters president Jordan Roth.
Featuring music by Scott Frankel, lyrics by Michael Korie, and a book by the film's screenwriter Allan Knee, Finding Neverland follows the story of Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie (Ovenden) and his relationship with the family of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Rosalie Craig). Llewelyn Davies' children eventually became Barrie's inspiration to write the Pan story.
The original cast also featured
Liz Robertson as Sylvia’s mother, Clare Foster, Oliver Boot, Stuart Neal, Vince Leigh and Norman Bowman. No word yet on if they would transfer with the show to New York. The limited engagement ran at Curve Theatre from September 21 through October 18.
Before Broadway, Finding Neverland plans to open in the West End in the spring of 2013. Take a look at the show's trailer below!
