Andrea McArdle to Headline Mame at Bucks County Playhouse

Tony nominee Andrea McArdle (best known as Broadway’s original Annie) will take on another musical icon: Auntie Mame. McArdle will star as the eccentric title character in the Bucks County Playhouse's upcoming production of Mame. The musical will run at the Pennsylvania venue May 23 through June 9. No further casting has been announced.

Mame tells the story of orphan Patrick Dennis, who grows up in 1920s New York with his one-of-a-kind Aunt Mame. The Jerry Herman classic opened at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theater on May 24, 1966. The show starred Angela Lansbury as Mame, Frankie Michaels as Partick and Bea Arthur as Mame’s “bosom buddy” Vera Charles. All three actors nabbed Tony Awards for their work.

McArdle is the youngest actress ever to be nominated for a Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical. In addition to Annie, McArdle has appeared in Starlight Express, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, State Fair and alongside Carol Channing and Leslie Uggams in the tour of Jerry’s Girls. She recently starred in off-Broadway’s NEWSical the Musical and headlined 70s and Sunny, a solo show at 54 Below.

Bucks County Playhouse's 2013 season will also include the Kander and Ebb revue The World Goes Round (June 27 through July 21), Really Rosie (July 5 through 21) and a yet to be announced holiday show (December 4 through 29).
