Mariah Gale will star as Catherine in David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning drama Proof at London’s the Menier Chocolate Factory. Directed by Polly Findlay, the production will co-star Jamie Parker as Hal, Matthew Marsh as Robert and Emma Cunniffe as Claire. Proof wil begin performances on March 13 and run through April 27, with opening night scheduled for March 20.
In Proof, Catherine has cared for her father Robert, a renowned mathematician, through his mental illness for the past five years. His ex-student, Hal, discovers a ground-breaking proof in Robert’s office but the question is posed: who is the real author of this brilliant work? Catherine struggles to solve this as well the most perplexing problem of all: how much of her father’s madness—or genius—has she inherited?
For her performance in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore in 2006, Gale received the Ian Charleson Award, Time Out Live Award for Best Newcomer and Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Her other credits include Three Sisters, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and the TV series Skins and Olivier Twits. Parker co-starred in the original London and Broadway casts of The History Boys. He has also appeared Henry V, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and the film Valkyrie with Tom Cruise and Kenneth Branagh. Marsh’s stage credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, The Last of the Haussmans and Copenhagen. Cunniffe has performed in The Crucible, The Master Builder, The Entertainer and Conquest of the South Pole. Her TV credits include The Lakes, Great Expectations, Doctor Who and Southcliffe.
