Motown: The Musical Finds Its Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye

Casting is complete for Broadway's Motown: The Musical as newcomers Raymond Luke Jr. and Jibreel Mawry will play Young Berry Gordy, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, with Bryan Terrell Clark also joining the cast as Marvin Gaye. The three actors—who will all make their Broadway debuts —join previously announced stars Brandon Victor Dixon and Valisia LeKae.

Featuring a book by Motown mogul Berry Gordy, Motown: The Musical charts the rapidfire ascent of Gordy (Dixon) from a featherweight boxer to a heavyweight music producer, whose career-launching credits include Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and more. The musical will feature some of Motown’s chart-topping classics as it follows Gordy’s life, including his romance with Ross (LeKae).

The complete cast of Motown includes Charl Brown as Smokey Robinson and an ensemble including Timothy J. Alex, Nicholas Christopher, Rebecca E. Covington, Ariana DeBose, Andrea Dora, Preston W. Dugger III, Wilkie Ferguson, Dionne Figgins, Marva Hicks, Sasha Hutchings, Lauren Lim Jackson, Morgan James, John Jellison, Crystal Joy, Grasan Kingsberry, Marielys Molina, Sydney Morton, Jarran Muse, Jesse Nager, Milton Craig Nealy, N’Kenge, Dominic Nolfi, Saycon Sengbloh, Ryan Shaw, Jamal Story, Eric LaJuan Summers, Ephraim Sykes, Julius Thomas III, Daniel J. Watts and Donald Webber, Jr..

Clark appeared opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett in Fences. His TV credits include The Unit and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Mawry, a Detroit native, served as a co-host for YE TV. Luke Jr. can be seen on national commercials for Toys R Us and Volkswagen, as well as on film in Bad Father and Failure is Not an Option.

Motown is set to begin its Broadway run on March 11 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with opening night set for April 14. Find out more about the musical by clicking below!
