Scottish recording artist Marti Pellow will play Che in a new U.K. tour of Evita, directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical kicks off its tour at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre on May 13, where it will play six performances. The tour will then make stops in 13 cities including Glasgow, Liverpool, Sheffield, Norwich, Belfast, Bristol and Southampton. No word yet on who will play the title role of Eva Peron.
Pellow’s successful music career began as part of the pop group Wet Wet Wet, and he went on to release over 25 hit songs including U.K. number one singles like “Love Is All Around” and “Close to You.” He has previously appeared on stage in The Witches of Eastwick, Chess, Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago and Blood Brothers.
Evita was last revived in London in 2006 by director Michael Grandage. The revival starred Olivier Award nominees Elena Roger as Eva and Matt Rawle as Che. The production transferred to Broadway in 2012 with Roger and pop star Ricky Martin as Che. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita charts the rise and fall of Eva Peron, the one-time charismatic and glamorous young First Lady of Argentina. The musical includes songs such as “Buenos Aires,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.”
Evita will feature set and costume design by Matthew Wright, lighting by Mark Howett, sound by Ben Harrison and choreography by Bill Deamer.
