Alan Cumming’s Reimagined Macbeth Gets Two-Week Broadway Extension

Come, you spirits, to the Ethel Barrymore Theatre…to see Macbeth a second time! Tony winner Alan Cumming’s spooky new retelling of the classic Shakespeare tragedy has received a two-week Broadway extension. Directed by John Tiffany and Andrew Goldberg, Macbeth, which was originally scheduled to play a limited engagement through June 30, will now play through July 14.

This unique production of Macbeth revisits the Shakespearian thriller in the mind of a lone patient in a psychiatric ward. Cumming retells the classic story, playing almost every role, while the production utilizes multimedia and props to reinterpret the text. In addition to Cumming, Jenny Sterlin and Brendan Titley play a doctor and an orderly, respectively. The show has received three Broadway.com Audience Choice Award nominations including Favorite Play Revival and Favorite Actor in a Play. 

Macbeth features set and costume design by Merle Hensel, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Fergus O’Hare and projection design by Ian William Galloway.
