The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is thrilled to be among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2013 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!

Cyndi Lauper
Best Original Score, Kinky Boots

“All I can say is ‘OMG OMG OMG. Everybody really say yeah!’ I’m really excited. I watched it live. I was jumping up and down. I was laughing; I was crying; I was screaming—it was better than Cats. I can’t believe it. I’m so relieved and I’m so glad. I can’t believe that we had this idea, and I got to work with friends and then we got this wonderful cast. It’s different [being a Tony nominee than a Grammy winner] because it’s so collaborative. I had a big team and a real family—this is my Broadway family. I went all over the world [as a performer], and in my own backyard people accepted me. It’s a little like Dorothy. To be recognized by the community like that is so awesome. I called my mother and apologized for wrecking all of her records when I was small and thanked her for bringing all that music in the house.”
