Alan Cumming is thrilled that his 'fu**ing weird' new version of 'Macbeth' earned two BACA trophies!

Fans were outraged when Tony voters snubbed Macbeth and its versatile star Alan Cumming, but the Scottish play and the Scottish-born actor were big winners at the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards! Cumming took home the Favorite Actor in a Play award for his portrayal of nearly every role in Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, and Macbeth won the trophy for Favorite Play Revival at the awards ceremony on May 5.

Cumming, who sets the eerie tale of Macbeth inside a psychiatric institution, is thrilled that audience members are captivated by his new take on the Bard’s masterpiece. “I’m so heartened by the fact that there’s a place on Broadway for something this f**king weird,” Cumming told Broadway.com after accepting his award. “It’s so exciting that it’s being embraced by a young audience.”

As fans found out in Cumming's Broadway.com video blog, playing nearly every role in Macbeth is no easy task for the Tony winner. “This is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life, and I’m rewarded every night in the theater for doing it,” Cumming said. “I’m rewarded every night in the theater, but to be given an award by the people who see the shows—real people—it’s why I really wanted to do it.”
