Charl Brown is telling you: Jennifer Holliday changed his life.

In the weeks leading up to the 2013 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting video clips of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. Charl Brown, a Best Featured Actor hopeful for his smooth moves as Smokey Robinson in Motown The Musical, chose a clip that has already clocked more than 3.6 million views on YouTube, a medley from Dreamgirls performed at the Imperial Theatre on June 6, 1982 and introduced by host Tony Randall. The highlight? No, no, no, no, no! You already know, and it starts at 3:31. Wow.

“I have to say I really loved the Dreamgirls year, seeing Jennifer Holliday sing ‘And I’m Telling You I'm Not Going’ on the Tonys. That was one of the pinnacle moments of my life. That’s when I realized I wanted to be there someday, just like her.”
