Terrence Mann Recalls the Onstage and Offstage Tony Night Excitement When Les Miserables Ruled Broadway

In the weeks leading up to the 2013 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting video clips of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. Capping off our series is Terrence Mann, who picked up his third Tony nomination for the featured role of Charlemagne in Pippin. The Broadway favorite shares warm memories of June 7, 1987, the night of his first nomination as Javert in Les Miserables, when the ceremony was held at the greatly missed Mark Hellinger Theatre. “The night Les Miz was nominated [for 12 Tonys] was pretty memorable! Singing ‘One Day More’ was awesome. I also got to meet Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore backstage that night. They hadn’t seen each other in a while, and I stood between them, which was exciting.”
