West End A Chorus Line Sets August Closing Date, Plans for European Tour

The West End revival of A Chorus Line will play its last performance on August 31 following its six-month run at the London Palladium. Producers of the show are in the midst of finalizing plans for a European tour that will hit Germany, Holland, France and beyond, prior to a U.K. tour set to begin in autumn 2014.

Directed by Michael Bennett’s longtime collaborator Bob Avian (who also directed the 2006 Broadway revival), A Chorus Line earned high praise on the West End and earned an Olivier Award nomination for Best Musical Revival. Leigh Zimmerman scored a win for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her role as the fiery Sheila.

Chronicling the lives of dancers as they strive to land a role in the ensemble of an unnamed show, A Chorus Line opened on Broadway in 1975 and went on to become (at one time) the longest-running musical on Broadway with 6,173 performances. The show won nine Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A 1976 West End production ran for several years at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
