It’s the Fourth of July, and you know what that means: The Phantom is putting on his shorts and firing up the barbecue! Broadway.com Resident Artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson dreamed up an awesome Broadway July 4th bash, complete with little Michael Jackson serving lemonade, Guy and Girl providing some dreamy acoustic tunes, Glinda lighting sparklers, Sandy the dog sporting a Lady Liberty crown and more. Clockwise from lower right, the portrait features characters from The Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Pippin, Kinky Boots, Matilda, Cinderella, Motown, Chicago, The Lion King, Spider-Man, Newsies, Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys, Wicked, Mamma Mia!, The Book of Mormon and Once. Look closely for tributes to all-American musicals 1776, The Music Man and George M!, too. Check out Squigs’ holiday masterpiece, then catch a show on Broadway this Independence Day weekend!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
