Josh Gad Lands Leading Role Opposite Billy Crystal in The Comedians Pilot

Josh Gad’s career is on fire! The Tony nominee—who is seems to be everywhere these days (we’ll get to that)—has landed another starring role, playing an on-the-rise comic alongside Billy Crystal in the cable pilot The Comedians.

Deadline reports that Gad has signed on to star in and produce the FX/Fox TV Studios pilot, which follows a young rising comedian who is reluctantly paired with an aging former superstar (Crystal) on a late-night comedy show.

What else is the red-hot Gad up to these days? He’ll appear as Steve Wozniak in the much buzzed-about Steve Jobs biopic Jobs (out in theaters on August 16); he’s also appearing in Frozen, Me and My Shadow, Thanks For Sharing, Wish I Was Here and Best Man, Inc.. Gad recently signed on to play the late comic Sam Kinison in a biopic directed by Larry Charles, who will direct The Comedians.

Both stars share a Broadway pedigree, with Gad having earned a Tony nomination in 2011 for his breakout role in The Book of Mormon and Crystal heading back to Broadway this fall with his signature one-man show 700 Sundays.
