Prep the “Prince Ali” parade because Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie and Jafar are arriving on Broadway this spring. The Disney musical, adapted from the hit 1992 animated comedy, will begin performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre on February 26, with an opening night set for March 20. No casting has been announced.
Aladdin is the story of a street urchin who uses the help of a magic Genie to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. The Broadway musical features a book by Chad Beguelin, music by Oscar and Tony winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman and direction and choreography by Book of Mormon Tony winner Casey Nicholaw.
Aladdin includes scenic design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, costume design by Gregg Barnes, sound design by Ken Travis, hair design by Josh Marquette and illusion design by Jim Steinmeyer. The creative team also includes music supervisor and director Michael Kosarin, orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly.
Aladdin will receive a pre-Broadway premiere at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre from November 13 through January 12, 2014.
